I love making my own sauces, makes me feel better knowing exactly what is in them. Here is an amazing barbecue sauce recipe.
1 large onion, finely diced
6 cloves garlic, chopped
1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes
1 teaspoon ground cumin
2 tablespoon olive oil
1 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup molasses
1 (32 ounce) bottle tomato ketchup
1 cup apple cider
1/2 cup cider vinegar
2 tablespoons yellow mustard
1/8 tsp. mesquite smoke (just a few drops - optional)
3/4 teaspoon sea salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper, freshly ground

Chop up the onion
In a large saucepan on medium heat add the onion, garlic, cumin, red pepper flakes and olive oil. cook until onions are soft.
Add brown sugar
next add the molasses
1 bottle of ketchup (this was a 32 ounce bottle)
Add Apple Cider
Cider Vinegar
Mustard
mix together completely
add salt and pepper to taste. Bring the mixture to a boil and then reduce the heat and simmer for 25-30 minutes
thoroughly sterilize canning jars (I had 2 empty jars from pizza sauce and used those)
ready to fill the jars!
Fill the jars
tightly close the lids and store in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.
